Clouds

I'm obsessed with St. Louis clouds. They're stunning. It's great to stop at a red light and stare at the sky.

Monday Makes: birthday dress and t-shirts

Saturday, I was sewing all day. For some reason, my two-year-old let me.  Weird. I finished two shirts that have been languishing for my now 9 yo, and this birthday dress for my now 11 yo.

The first shirt is incredibly boring, cream t-shirt. Very nice though. The other shirt is interesting using the last of my favorite green stripe. You recognize it if you've read my blog very often. I love it. I was always going to make something fantastic for ME, but my kids are cuter so they win.
I used the brown because it was cool and nothing to do with running out of the green stripe.

Hm. Do I like this shirt?

It makes me look adorable.

And I can match my cool little brother and do cool tandem stunts!

Are you ready, bud?

One, Two, Three!

POW!

KAPOW!

Full disclosure: I actually made this dress for Watergirl photo shoot. I never make things ahead of time. Afterwards, I realized that a birthday was coming up rather soon, and everybody is happy that I did something early for once.

For miss birthday, I wanted eyelet, but I didn't find anything I liked. I searched my stash and came up with these curtains from our old house. I sewed them all together and where there was a stain, I gathered up some fabric and made a flower. It was really, really fun. I used Ottobre 3/2007 #32. I made this... 9 years ago? But it still works because it's in 2 different age ranges. I love that. It's a bit tricky construction wise. The whole thing is doubled, and the straps are also doubled. The front and back are princess seam.

I am too beautiful to see myself.

I'm floating away.

Now I'm dancing in the water.

I can float away too! See?

Happiness is when you're supposed to jump on mama's bed.

Ready for our curtsies, or are we still floating away?

Either way, funnest photo shoot ever.

Thieves of Essence on Radish

I'm doing this weird thing, where I'm putting up a book serially, a chapter at a time. It's new for me, but maybe some of you have done that, or read things that way. It's good to try new things, right?

It's a YA post dystopian novel about a girl and a boy from different sides of the track who are trying to save society from a serious disaster.

Other Watergirl Cover

So, this is the illustrated cover, and I think it's fabulous, but when polled, the majority of people seriously adore the other one. Photoshop. Yes. I must continue to pursue it's hoary hide. But! I get to work on Water Gambit (the writing), so that's awesome! I've been dreaming about it for a few days.

Watergirl 2: or Watergambit. This sort of thing. Maybe. Liking it a little bit better.

This will have a different model, hands against the glass, and probably a better photo for the lab in the background. Also, swirly stuff around the edges. I am having a hard time thinking in layers. :)

Monday Makes: Watergirl Cover thing

I'm trying to learn photoshop before May, when the Watergirl 2 comes out (Watergambit) and I need new cohesive covers for both one and two. Yay for Watergambit coming out!!!

So, I've been photoshopping. You know you want to see it. Maybe not, but you can anyway. In fact, you already have because clearly, the image is easier to see than these letter. So I'll ask you, 'what do you think?'

Also, I'm feeling misanthropic. Maybe it's post valentine's, or just in general too cloudy and snowy blah weather, but I think it's the fact that I pushed and pushed to finish the awesome House of Slide: Hollow, 3rd revision, my last tough revision, I think, and now I'm sad. Because I want it to be over but I hate finishing things.

I really hate finishing things. Sewing, cooking, everything. I like being in process much better. I have no idea why. Good thing my schedule is keeping me on task or I'd never finish and publish anything. Maybe that's a good thing. Sometimes I wonder. Like today when I'm feeling the blues. Or grays. Blue is much nicer.

Photoshop slays me. Personal dragons.

For my mother, because she wanted to see my happy birthday to me outfit, got the linen jacket done. Yay! Also the red riding hood felt doll ...
