Sew Saturday Boy's Coat hotchpotch

This has taken me ages to finally get done. Poor kid. Now that it's 60 degrees out there, it's finished. :) I love sewing wool. It stays put. The lining was fiddly. Interlined the sleeves and hood with poly fleece, but the body is a nice quilted cotton lining. Everything from my stash. I've been collecting wool for a long time. And once more, my hoarding ways are validated.

Something kind of funny. I forgot how to invisible stitch for one sleeve cuff and then I remembered for the next one and the hem. Buttons are my friend. Zippers always break in our house. The last coat I made for this guy I replaced the zipper four times. None of that with this coat.

Why must you torture me?

Is it plaid...

Or herringbone?

Nicely lined. Not itchy at all.

Looking pensive. Also hot.

January looks like this...

Cards and puzzles

Watercolor. We're going through this watercolor book, Everyday Watercolor, and we havent' been doing it every day, but still, lots of fun.

Annual New Year's tea party. Sweet Pea made the coffee cake all by herself. She's awesome.

Hats and Happiness.

We went rollerskating. That was the best fun I've had for years it feels like. Totally worth not being able to walk the next day. And the next. And the next...

6 year old handling knives. Exciting stuff. :)

Sew Saturday Christmas Dresses

This year's Christmas Dresses were seriously fun. The fabric, from the amazing Jackman's Fabrics was adorable and easy to sew, but that's quality cotton for you. My favorite thing is the yellow dress, because all that fabric came from my stash except for the Red Riding Hood panel. There's nothing more satisfying than sewing cuteness from stash. :) The pattern was from an old Burda magazine I have in my stash. I came up with the piping on my own, which was a seriously jiggly bit. Piping on square corners is a mess. I had to hand sew it all and fiddle a lot to get them to be moderately not weird. Oh well. They love them, and that's what really matters.

For my mother, because she wanted to see my happy birthday to me outfit, got the linen jacket done. Yay! Also the red riding hood felt doll ...
